Getting started

Build your first menu

A good menu starts with a few simple building blocks. Here’s how to put them together.

Plan your menu

Start with the menu you already serve. List your dishes, their prices, the sizes you offer and the choices a guest needs to make. Decide which choices guests should see online and which customizations your team needs at the till.

Build the structure

A catalogue brings your menus and reusable components together. It can be shared across locations, so you don’t need a separate copy of every dish for every restaurant.

  1. Choose the catalogue your location will use.
  2. Organize your menus into categories, such as Burgers, Sides and Drinks.
  3. Add items to those categories. Use subcategories when a section needs another level of organization.

Add sizes and choices

Use variations for sizes or versions of the same dish. Use modifier groups for choices such as a meal’s drink and side, or optional extras such as cheese and dips.

For fast customizations at the till, add Quick modifiers such as No pickles or Sauce on the side. These are available on POS only.

Review your menu

Check each item’s price, status and availability for delivery and pickup. Review size prices and extra charges separately: changing a base price doesn’t necessarily change those prices.

Before editing a shared item or group, check where else it is used. Reusing menu components keeps your menu consistent, but a change can affect more than one place.

Build meals from their components

Create or reuse the drinks, sides, dips and other products that your meals need before assembling the meals themselves.

  1. Check your existing items for components you can reuse.
  2. Add missing drinks, sides and dishes with their own prices and sizes.
  3. Create groups for required choices and optional extras.
  4. Add those groups to your meals.
  5. Build larger bundles from the completed meals, keeping each meal's choices available.

For example: Coke, Fries and Burger → Drink and Sides groups → Burger Meal → Family Bundle. Check each layer's prices and choices before adding it to the next. An item with “Item can also be a modifier” enabled is available as a choice, but still needs to be added to the appropriate group.
