Import a menu with Gordon
Bring over your categories, dishes, prices and choices from an existing menu.

Prepare your menu
Choose a file with clear category headings, item names, descriptions, prices, sizes and choices. Scanned or image-heavy menus work best as PDF or images.
You can upload PDF, Word (.doc/.docx), Excel (.xls/.xlsx), CSV, TSV, TXT, PowerPoint, RTF, ODT, PNG, JPEG or WebP. The upload flow accepts up to five files totaling 4 MiB; check the limits shown when uploading.
Office documents provide extracted text rather than embedded images. Spreadsheet imports cover up to 1,000 rows per sheet. Split larger sheets or export them as CSV so the rest of your menu is included.
Ask for the import
- Select the correct location.
- Upload your menu files or provide the restaurant's menu URL.
- Say whether you want a new menu or an update to an existing one.
- Ask Gordon to include the categories, dishes, descriptions, prices, sizes and choices.
- Answer questions about unclear prices or missing details.
For example: “Import this menu for Acme Kitchen, including all sizes, meal choices and extras.” During setup, Gordon can open the Upload menu card. You can also refer to an attachment already in the conversation.
Uploading a file alone does not start an import. Importing a menu updates menu management; ask separately if you also want website content or design changes.
For a URL, provide the correct location's menu. If some sections require login or cannot be read, supply those sections as files. Check the result for any sections Gordon could not access.
Sizes, extras and meals
A dish with Small, Medium and Large prices uses variations. Required drink and side choices use modifier groups; optional extras and staff-only Quick modifiers serve different purposes.
Confirm missing prices and unavailable sizes rather than treating a dash as a free option. If your menu uses a different currency from the location, agree the intended prices before importing; importing does not convert currency automatically.
Gordon builds reusable components before meals and bundles. For example: Coke + Fries + Burger → Drink/Sides groups → Burger Meal → Family Bundle. Existing suitable products can be reused. A bundled meal still needs its own drink and side choices.
Review every section
Compare the saved menu with the original, checking:
- Every category and dish, including later pages and attachments.
- Descriptions, prices and available sizes.
- Required choices, optional extras and upgrade charges.
- Meals within bundles and their own required selections.
- The intended menu and category for each item.
The setup checklist's menu milestone only requires a basic menu structure. It can be complete before a large import has finished. A count of imported products is useful, but also check the actual contents and unresolved items.
Continue an interrupted import
Read the progress message to see what was saved and what remains. Ask Gordon to continue the remaining work instead of starting the same import again. Existing products that need corrections should be edited rather than duplicated.
If an attachment cannot be reopened or a result cannot be read, check the conversation and saved menu before uploading or importing again. A failed response does not necessarily mean nothing was saved.
Add further customization
After the import, you can review extra ways to modify items that were not included on the original menu. Supply the ingredients, alternatives and charges you actually offer. For a full-menu import, complete the menu first, then review these additions together. Declining optional customization leaves the imported menu in place.
